Pro-POSCO activists oppose Medha Patkar's entry

Jagatsinghpur,Dec.11.(Odisha.in): The pro-POSCO activists in the proposed plant area of South Korean steel giant, opposed entry to Narmada Bachao activist who is fighting against forceful displacement for industrialization and projects in the country.

At Balitutha, they shouted slogans saying that they would not allow any outsider to enter the area and create division among the people by speaking against POSCO.

Similarly villagers of Badgabpur protested her near their village when she was going to Nuagaon an affected village to meet the villagers for restoration peace.


On her way, hundreds villagers slept on the road and prevented the entry of Patkar in to Nuagaon. They also shown ply cards that read ‘Medha go back and we want Posco project'.

This led heat exchange of word between supporters and protestors. Medha could able to visit Nuagaon after police intervention,  Kujang police station inspector Anil Mishra said.

However, Medha said that she is not opposing to industrialization, but against forceful displacement. She said that a peaceful solution could be brought out with mutual consultation.

Prior to visit of Medha, the pro-POSCO activists had made announcement
in the area to impose fine of Rs 5,000.00 on persons who would meet and talk to Medha during her visit to the area.

Patkar the noted social activist however participated in a rally at the district headquarter town of Jagatsinghpur. The rally was held in support of the ongoing Satyaghara in the town for peace in the POSCO project area.

Medha condemned the presence of outsider anti-socials and hired goons in the proposed POSCO plant area to terrorize the people. She also disapproved the attack on Satyagrahis of Navnirman Samiti , Rashtriya Yuva Morcha and others , and insult to Mahatma Gandhi, in presence of police.

In the meanwhile reacting to Medha's visit to POSCO's controversial plant site in Jagatsinghpur, Orissa Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik has urged Patkar to think in terms of all round development of Orissa.

 He said, establishment of POSCO will provide employment potentiality and help in the progress of the State.
