Jajpur, March 19 They are no more the mere tribal women; they are leaders of the community. And they spent 18 days last year in their leadership development training. They take care of the health and hygienic system of their community with trained health facilitators.
And also have their kitchen garden to provide fresh vegetables to their family members. Almost all their kids are studying in good schools. This has also resulted women partnering themselves aggressively in to the change for prosperity.
And now the women from Kalinganagar are approaching market with new home made pickles and jelly. They are confident to give the big brands run for their money in the local market before expanding to markets across the state.
Divyajoti SHG was formed by rehabilitated tribal women from Kalamatia. They started their workshop in Sansailo. After taking loan from State Bank of India, these tribal women have started their pickle factory.
Tata Steel, which is setting up their 6 million ton steel plant, has provided them with a trainer to prepare hygienic pickles and jelly.
While these 10 women are preparing 4 quintals of pickles in the first month, they have now targeted to produce 60 quintals of pickles in the first year to repay their loans from the bank. In the initial days, the SHG has also received various acclamations from distinguished citizens.
This is not the only activity that the women of Tata Steel Parivar are doing. On this women’s day, nearly 200 women from various parts of Kalinganagar assembled and discussed their learning, achievement, excitement and as well as a shared vision for the betterment of their quality of life.
They are now having 20 SHGs with 257 members. They have generated a savings of Rs.2.74 Lakh and got Rs 19,000 from interest and other income. They have mobilized internal loan of Rs.2.77 lakh and got Rs 4.17 lakh from bank to start their various initiatives.
This includes 11 poultries (each of 350 birds capacity), 2 goatery, production of school dresses, phenyle and vermicompost apart from vegetable production.
They have also planted 4000 saplings of Mango, Papaya, lemon, drumstick, Banana,Teak, Australian teak, Subabul, Acacia and Amla in Sansailo and Trijanga Rehab Colony. These women have also developed a small garden to preserve the traditional medicinal plant in the colony.
