Bhubaneswar, Aug 15 (Odisha.in) A Chennai based firm has claimed to have developed technologies that may help the world to fight swine flu, the firm managing director said Monday.

The H1N1 viruses which cause the swine flu are of 80-120 nanometre in size and no filter or mask can be effective as almost all of them can only filter upto 0.3 microns size particles.

Chennai-based Hydrodrive Systems and Controls has developed a copper nano filter mask technology which will inactivate the H1N1 virus on contact with the Copper nano surface, its managing director and inventor Srinivasan Gopalakrishnan told Odisha.in over phone from Chennai.

“We have also developed an air purifier technology that kills colds and flu germs, including H1N1, H5N1 bird flu, as well as MRSA and Anthrax” he said.

“Unlike air filtration devices, the system simulates the production of fresh air to destroy airborne viruses and bacteria in minutes within private, work and public spaces” said Gopalakrishnan, a mechanical engineer with a management degree who set up Hydrodrive in 1981.

The unit can be readily adapted for a range of domestic, commercial, medical and industrial applications. It can be incorporated within large ventilation systems for healthcare and for home, land security” he said.

“The unit creates an open air flow which is rich in hydroxyl radicals, to destroy microbes including flu and cold viruses and bacteria, both in the air and on surface contact.

Hydroxyl radicals are found naturally in abundance in outdoor fresh air, with high concentrations in forested mountain areas” he said.

The technologies the firm developed has been covered by a patent granted to it in several countries including Britain, Canada, India, the Philippines and patent pending in China, Japan and the US,” Gopalakrishnan, 57, said.
