Bhubaneswar, April 8 (Odisha.in) Orissa’s first campus based community radio station will go on air from April 14 at prestigious Ravenshaw University in Cuttack city, Netajee Abhinandan, chairman of Ravenshaw Radio 90.4 MHz said on Friday.

The radio station was originally scheduled to start its broadcast from April 1 on the occasion of Orissa formation day, but due to unavoidable circumstances it had to be deferred, he told Odisha.in.

We have planed to put it on air formally from April 14, coinciding with the Oriya New Year or the auspicious Bisuv Sankranti, he said.

The radio station, which has been on dry run since more then six months in the past for around 12 hours daily, has become popular mostly among the students of the University for its interactive and educative programmes, he said.

The dry run of the community radio station which has a coverage zone of 8-10 km with its own production and transmission studio in cit city will continue till it is formally launched.

The regular broadcast will be from 2 pm to 4 pm on all days and the repeat broadcast from 10 am to 12 noon next day after the formal launch, he said.

Ravenshaw radio is the second community radio station in the state after Radio Namaskar 90.4 MHz launched by Young India a non government organization based at Konark in Puri district.

Radio Namaskar, launched in February last year is completely managed by local residents. It broadcast all its programmes mainly in Oriya. Its focus areas were local governance, women’s issues, food security and youth issues.
