Bhubaneswar, Dec 12 (Odisha.in) Intensifying its crackdown on those involved in multi crore mining scam, police on Sunday arrested at least three more persons in Orissa’s mineral rich Keonjhar district, official said.
With the latest arrest the number of people held in the district for the crimes since January this year has increased to 340, district superintendent of Police Ashish Kumar Singh said.
The accused Sajid Hembram, Rengta Hesa and Abdul Wahid were arrested by a special police squad from Barbil area, about 315 kilometers from state capital Bhubaneswar.
Police were searching them after having enough evidence that they raised iron ore worth millions of rupees illegally from different mines last year and smuggled them to neighbouring Jharkhand.
Various state and central agencies including police began probe into the scam after some politicians came out with records in July last year that several mines were operating illegally in the region.
