Gas cylinders explode in Orissa plant, two killed

Bhubaneswar, April 9 (Odisha.in) Two persons were killed and two others critically injured when gas cylinders exploded at an industrial gas manufacturing unit in Orissa’s Sundergarh district on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The incident took place at about 4 pm at the plant of Asiatic Gases Limited at Vedvyas, near the steel city of Rourkela, about 500 kms from state capital Bhubaneswar.

Police suspect some oxygen cylinders had burst may be due to snag with the cooling system.

S.S.Pujari, the in charge of the local Brahmanitarang police station said efforts were on to know if more people were inside when the blast took place. Fire fighters have rushed to the site, he said.

“Although it appears to be an accident, investigation is on to ascertain the facts” he told Odisha.in.Company official were not immediately available for comment.

Asiatic Gases Limited manufactures and markets industrial gases in more than 28 gas manufacturing facilities spread over 15 states in the country.
