Bhubaneswar, Nov 1(Odisha.in) A devotee sustained minor injury after a piece of stone fell from the roof of one of the entrances of the world famous 12th century JagannathTemple on Tuesday in Orissa’s Puri town, official said. The incident has prompted chief minister Naveen Patnaik to shot off a letter to the union culture minister Kumari Sailja for proper conservation of the ancient monument. A stone slab weighing about a tonne and shaped like a pot slide down from the roof of the western entrance at about 11.30 am when the temple premise was crowded, temple public relation officer Laxmidhar Pujapanda told Odisha.in. “Thanks god it did not fell on any body. Only a devotee sustained minor injury after a small piece of debris hit him”, he said. A senior official of the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) which has been assigned to maintain, conserve and preserve the temple since 1975 said it is safe and the visitors can enter he temple without any fear. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has asked the union culture minister to intervene and direct to the ASI for proper maintenance as large numbers of devotees were visiting the temple on the occasion of the holy month of Kartika.
