Bargarh, 25 (Odisha.in) The rural students in western Orissa have shown their interest in mathmatics by participating in a competition here organized by a non resident Oriya.
Jnana Bikash Sanstha an organization founded by Khirsagar Naik who works as a professor at Canada’s Waterloo University has been organizing Brahmagupta Mathematics Competition since last three years with the help of some local officials, residents and organizations.
The third competition here held April 20. This year the competition was held in six blocks of Bargarh district. They are Attabira, Bheden, Bargarh, Barpali, Bhatli, and Ambabhona.
The district inspector of school Subodh Dash helped organisors to conduct the competition in a peaceful manner.
At least 64 students from tribal Block Ambabhona, 130 from Bheden, 32 from Bhatli, 98 from Barpali, 117 from Attabira and 155 from Bargarh Block participated in the competition this year, local organisor Nimai Pradhan told Odisha.in.
“Everyone must recognize the role of mathematics in today's knowledge-based economy, and the importance of good mathematics education starting from the primary school level” Khirsagar Naik told from his village Babebira.
Jnana Bikash Sanstha will make an effort to hold a mathematics camp for a selected number of students next year who have taken part in this competition, he said.
Advanced, non-traditional mathematical concepts will be introduced to them at the camp so that they get an opportunity to advance their mathematical thinking capability, he said.
Novel study and practice materials in mathematics will be designed and published by us for the benefits of interested students, he said.
Jnana Bikash Sanstha is making an effort to popularize mathematics in Western Orissa and we hope people will extend all their cooperation, he said. We are happy that more and more students are participating, he said.
